Things to Know Before You Go!
Thank you for booking with Friends of Dave Tours! Your FULL DAY adventure includes a guided tour in 2 towns including any admissions, transportation, a lunch with one large drink, and a morning cake/coffee stop OR an afternoon farewell drink*; as well as the 19% German sales tax.
Tips are included for your lunch server and snack stop, but not for your guide. Tips are a personal matter and at your discretion.
IMPORTANT: For the past 3 summers we have operated on the honor system and have not required a deposit for your booking. With this in mind, we ask you to respect that Dave only has 16 spots per day and your email booking and acceptance of the ticket represent a binding agreement: you are liable for your tour fee. Cancellations are accepted up to 4 days prior to the tour, but must be in writing. Should your ship not dock due to weather or other complications, you are not held responsible. We tour rain or shine!
Some other bits of helpful info:
- Payment for your tour is in EUROS on the day of. There are ATMs along the way so do not pay any fees on board to change money, etc.
- Dave will meet you right outside the cruise terminal and will hold a Friends of Dave Tours sign!!!
- YOU MUST BE ON TIME FOR YOUR TOUR! Our tours have very precise time schedules and as we have up to 16 guests per group it is vital that you be off the ship and at the meeting point at the time on your ticket! It is wise to give yourself a 15 minute window due to the ship’s own tour passengers.
- For 7:30am departures: do not sit in your cabin waiting for the ship to be cleared or go to “public waiting areas”. Many cruise lines will try and disembark their tours before letting off independents, however, you have every right to leave the ship as soon as it clears. Please do so!
- Wear comfortable walking shoes! The roads and pedestrian ways in this part of Germany are often cobblestones, so for your comfort, be sure to wear good soled shoes with support.
- The weather in our area can change suddenly. Be sure to dress in layers and have a small umbrella in your bag. A poncho isn't a bad thing to have in your bag either - having it will most likely ensure sun!
- We recommend you use a small backpack instead of a purse (or a fanny pack which identifies you as a target for snatchers.)
- Be sure to charge your camera batteries and bring any extra chips.
- NO MATTER WHETHER YOU BOOK WITH A CRUISE LINE, US, OR ANYONE ELSE... NEVER GET OFF THE SHIP IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY WITHOUT YOUR PASSPORT AND A CREDIT CARD!!!
- We know when your ship is scheduled to leave based on the port info, however, always double check what your all aboard time is as you leave the ship.
- You should NOT book any specialty dining on your Warnemünde port day unless it is AFTER 8:30 pm (9:30 for Celebrity ships). A tip: out of all your Baltic ports Warnemünde is the most affordable and we think you should stay in town after your tour for a drink, a meal, to watch the sunset, etc. Keep it in mind.
- It is a good idea to have a few Euro coins on you when traveling in Europe. Most places charge for restroom facilities. That said, all our scheduled stops have free rest rooms.
- We use a state of the art headset/audio guide system to enable you to hear every word! Although we provide everything, some people like to bring their own headsets from their iPods. Feel free.
- Please be sure that you read the information on our website about the physicality of our tours. While not strenuous, you MUST be able to walk for stretches of 20 - 30 minutes and keep up with the group. Sorry, we can not accept people who have mobility issues.
- Lastly, remember to bring your good mood, an open mind, a curious spirit and a love of fun. We are going to have a GREAT DAY!
